Food for the Spirit has been active in campaigns for a New York State farm bill, as well as a nationwide effort supporting a transformative farm bill. Despite recent setbacks in the House Agriculture Committee, they continue to push for fair and just agricultural policies. They encourage engagement through story sharing, contacting legislators, and learning about farm bill basics.
In 2023, Food for the Spirit created this timeline to share a snapshot of our history and the parallel and often intersecting timelines and developments of Food for the Spirit (F4tS) and the Buffalo Food Equity Network (BFEN).
Join us for a virtual film screening event titled "Power of Narrative: Creating An Equitable Food & Farm Bill" hosted by Black Farmers United NYS, Equity Advocates, and others, showcasing a 15-minute film featuring BIPOC voices in food and farming. The event includes insights from guest speakers and is part of a collective farm bill campaign.
In 2023, Food for the Spirit partnered with Pamela Reese Smith and Cornell Small Farms to host events to support BIPOC gardeners in Rochester, NY.
