Remembering the Agricultural Pavilion at 50th Juneteenth of Buffalo Festival

In this video is Jaime Swygert, visionary behind the Juneteenth Agricultural Pavilion.

Did you know that Food For the Spirit coordinates the Agricultural Pavilion at the Juneteenth of Buffalo Festival? While the festival was founded back in 1976 by members of the community action organization B.U.I.L.D. — “Build Unity, Independence, Liberty, and Dignity”, the Agricultural Pavilion was established in 2019 with the support of Jaime Swygert. The goal of the Juneteenth Agricultural Pavilion is to provide agricultural knowledge in an engaging and hands-on way. At this year’s celebration with the support from Buffalo Bills Foundation, Rooted In Love, Buffalo Go Green, Buffalo Freedom Gardens, and Fruition Seeds, we were able to giveaway hundreds of plants, seeds, and fresh fruits and vegetables to the festival’s attendees.

This year’s Juneteenth Agricultural Pavilion is made possible with the support from the Buffalo Bills Foundation, Western New York Foundation, Buffalo Center for Health Equity, and Citi Bank. Special thanks to Buffalo Bills Foundation for providing signed Buffalo Bills Merch, as part of our passport activity where attendees were able to receive sticker in their passport from the tabling organizations to be entered to receive merch. Video on the left features Rebekah Williams, Food For the Spirit’s Organizational Development and Strategy Lead. Pictured below are recipients of the Bills Merch, Jay to the left and Tawana on the right!

Thank you to all of the volunteers, tabling organizations, and presenters that helped to make this celebration possible! We are very grateful for all the support we have received! Thank you to our presenters for Sowing Wisdom, Ms. Della Miller, Tony Hillery, Pamela James, Nnenna Ferguson, and Carlos Calderon Jr! Pictured below in that order.
